Clinch - Captivated- PEM Fasteners

A "clinch" or "captivated" fastener is typically described as a fastener that is designed with special features built into it that allows the metal surrounding the hole the fastener is installed into to "flow" or move into the special fastener knurling or design features while under pressure. This then causes the fastener to become fixed in the hole.

These fasteners may come in nuts, studs, pins,plungers, panel fasteners, captivated screws, or standoffs (internally threaded). More advanced offerings are now found to enable ease of use for cable ties to be integrated into a cabinet with a right angle fastener, or the joining of 2 materials with the clinch or captivated fastener acting as the hinge point.

The fasteners are available in many styles such as threads that are self-locking, floating and free-running, Unified, Metric, and MIL. They can be made in many materials such as but not limited to, carbon steel, stainless, brass, aluminum.
